PREPOSITION OF PLACE   

Las preposiciones de lugar en inglés: IN, ON y AT se usan

 para referirse a la ubicación de las cosas en un espacio

 determinado, ya sean tangibles o intangibles. Para algunas personas que inician en el aprendizaje del idioma,

 este es un tema que puede resultar complejo, pero hoy

 con unas reglas sencillas vamos a aprender a diferenciar

 cuándo usar una u otro. Son pocas y sencillas. Vale la pena dominarlas

 para darle un empujón a la gramática y mejorar nuestro

 inglés. 

CUÁNDO UTILIZAR LA PREPOSICIÓN IN: 

DENTRO DE, EN (INTERIOR)?

• Espacios cerrados: in my room, in the living room, etc.

1. IN

IN  is used to refer to an enclosed space, a general area, or a specific country,

 city, or  location.

IN se utiliza para referirse a un espacio cerrado, una zona general, o un país, 

ciudad o lugar especificos.

1-Cuando consideramos un lugar como un área o espacio o región

 geográfica.

·         in a garden

·         in the city centre

·         in a city

·         in a town

2-También para hablar de coches y taxis.

·         He spent two hours in a taxi 

3-Usamos IN con expresiones como:

·         in class

·         in hospital

·         in prison

·         in court

4-Cuando nos referimos a estar metido en un espacio con agua.

·         in a pool

·         in the sea

·         in a river

5-En general también usamos la preposición IN cuando nos referimos a sitios

 que se  consideran contenedores.

·         in a box

·         in a building

·         in a room

·         in an office

·         in bed

·         in a picture

·         in a photo

2. ON

ON  is used to describe a surface, or something in contact with a surface.

 It can also

 refer to specific locations (like a street or a floor of a building).

ON se usa para describir una superficie, o algo en contacto con una

 superficie.

 También puede referirse a ubicaciones específicas (como una calle o un piso

 de un  edificio).

Usamos ON para indicar que algo se encuentra encima de una superficie.

Usamos la preposición ON en los siguientes casos.

 1-Para referirnos a algo que está en una posición en contacto con una superficie.on the ceiling

·         on the door

·         on the floor

·         on the table

2-Con medios de transporte que no sean coches y taxis.

·         on a bike

·         on a motorbike

·         on a horse

3-Para hablar de tecnología.

·       on the phone.

·       on Facebook.

4-Con las expresiones LEFT y RIGHT

·   on the left.

Usamos AT

AT is used to refer to specific points or precise locations. It is often used 

with places  like buildings, events, or specific addresses.

AT se utiliza para referirse a puntos específicos o ubicaciones precisas. 

Se usa comúnmente con lugares como edificios, eventos o direcciones

 específicas.

1- cuando pensamos de un lugar como una localización precisa. 

 EXAMPLE 

·         at the window

·         at the traffic lights

·         at the next stop

·         at the door

2-AT para referirnos a eventos con un grupo de personas. Por ejemplo:

·         at the reception this evening.

·         at the seminar yesterday?

EXAMPLES

3-También se usa con algunos lugares concretos como son:

·         at home (to be at home / to be home)

·         at school

·         at work

·         at university

·         at the station

·         at the airport
