PREPOSITIONS OF TIME IN, ON ,AT

 

IN

• PART OF THE DAYS :Con partes del día: In the morning, in the afternoon, in

 the evening

• MONTH Con meses: In January, in February……

• SEASON : Con las estaciones del año: In winter, in spring, in summer,in

 autumm

• YEARS: Con años: In 1987

• CENTURY : Con siglos: In the 18th century  

EXAMPLES
 - She was born in 1990. → Ella nació en 1990.

 - We’ll go on vacation in July. → Nos iremos de vacaciones en julio.

 - He studies in the afternoon. → Él estudia por la tarde.

 - They traveled in the 20th century. → Viajaron en el siglo XX.

ON

• THE DAYS OF THE WEEK: Con los días de la semana: On Monday, on

 Tuesday…..

•  WITH DATES :Con fechas: On 2nd of May

• WITH DAYS AND PARTS OF THE DAYS: Con días y partes del día: On

 Wednesday  afternoon.

• On holidays. días festivos con “day”, on Christmas Day

EXAMPLES:
 - I have a meeting on Tuesday. → Tengo una reunión el martes.

 - Her birthday is on May 3rd. → Su cumpleaños es el 3 de mayo.

 - They visited us on Christmas Day. → Nos visitaron el día de Navidad.

 - We’ll go shopping on Saturday afternoon. → Iremos de compras el sábado

 por la tarde.

AT

• Con las horas: At 7 o’clock

• festividades como periodo At Christmas, at Easter,

• At night

• At the weekend

• • At the beginning, at the end.

EXAMPLES
 - The show starts at 8:00 p.m. → El espectáculo comienza a las 8:00 p. m.

 - She wakes up at noon. → Ella se despierta al mediodía.

 - I’ll see you at the moment. → Te veré en este momento.

 - We usually eat dinner at Christmas. → Normalmente cenamos en Navidad

 

EXCEPTIONS

1-Aunque “night” es parte del día, usamos at night (no in night).

2-Para “weekend” en inglés americano se usa on the weekend, pero en inglés

 británico puede usarse at the weekend.

3-Cuando hablamos de “parts of the day” junto con un día: on Friday

 morning, on Sunday afternoon.

3-Festividades:

-Si decimos “Christmas” como un periodo (Navidad en general), usamos at

 Christmas.

-Pero si decimos “Christmas Day” (el día específico), usamos on Christmas

 Day.
